OMG Spark, aka. Saksham Shrestha (सक्षम श्रेष्ठ)
Born on 28th April, 2001, he is more than just a rapper and music producer—he is a sonic architect, blending the spirit of Nepal into every beat and bar. Raised in the vibrant heart of Kathmandu, surrounded by the hum of his parents’ cassette shop, Spark was immersed in a world of sound—where the echoes of sarangi intertwined with rock guitar riffs, and temple hymns met the pulse of hip-hop. This fusion of cultural sounds shaped his artistic vision: a harmonious blend of the ancient and the contemporary, the sacred and the rebellious.
This movement is the Sound of the Heritage movement. Unlike many artists who chase trends, OMG Spark carves his own sonic journey, crafting rhythms that transcend time. His music is a resurrection of Nepal’s lost voices—reviving traditional instruments like the Khin, Dhimay, Bhusya, Sitar, and Flute, infusing them with fresh life and energy. His work is a bridge, connecting generations, a rhythm that resonates with both ancestral memory and the possibilities of the future.
Since his debut album Made in Himalaya (2021), Spark has been breaking the boundaries between folk and hip-hop, past and future. His latest album, Valley Jamz: The New Sound of Kathmandu, is not just an album—it’s a movement, a call to awakening. Each track pulses with the heartbeat of Newar heritage, woven effortlessly with the raw energy of rap, proving that culture is never static—it evolves, reinvents, and thrives.
But beyond the music, OMG Spark embodies something deeper—a force of reclamation, a revival of identity. Once disillusioned with the struggles of his homeland, he transformed his frustrations into devotion, turning every verse into an anthem of resilience. Through his art, he is not merely preserving Nepal’s sound—he is amplifying it, sending its echoes across the world, ensuring that the brilliance of his heritage is heard, felt, and remembered.
OMG Spark has brought his unique fusion of traditional sounds and hip-hop to stages around Nepal. Here are posters from some of his memorable shows.
